Welcome to Pearl Pols

Pearl Pols was born in   Grahamstown.  She was   introduced to painting by her   mother, an accomplished   artist,   at an early age.  Early   in her career, she received   numerous commissions from   the Transvaal   Provincial   Administration to   paint the   coat of arms of the   Republic of South Africa.  A formal introduction by Chris Tugwell to flower studies in oils and acrylic, with which her name has become synonymous, followed and this led to a full-time art career.

In 1984 Pearl was invited to take part in an exhibition at the Maud Street Gallery in Johannesburg, and shortly after at the Landau Gallery in Johannesburg.  Since then Pearl has exhibited at the Sandton Gallery in Johannesburg, the Edrich Gallery in Stellenbosch, and currently at the Chris Tugwell Galleries, both in Brooklyn, Pretoria and Kosmos.

In the past, Pearl has managed her own art gallery and now manages on a part-time basis the Chris Tugwell Gallery in Kosmos.

Pearl’s technique in her flower studies reflects vitality and sensitivity.  The generous use of light flowing easily on her canvas, the attention to detail, combined with her ability to merge fleeting suggestions of impressionism and realism reflects the reality of the poetic beauty of flowers.  Her work is not only confined to depicting flowers in oil and acrylic, as she also paints landscapes and portraits.
